Le 10 décembre 2015 se tenait à la Maison de la Recherche à Paris la journée d’étude Musique et nation dans l’entre-deux-guerres (Europe-Amériques) . Musicologues et historiens ont questionné l’articulation du fait musical et de l’idée nationale dans les démocraties de l’entre-deux guerres. Ce lien avait déjà fait l’objet de diverses études pour le xix e siècle et les régimes autoritaires. La journée d’étude est la première étape d’un projet de recherche international coordonnée par le Centre d’Histoire Culturelle des Sociétés Contemporaines de l’Université Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, le laboratoire Synergies Langues Arts musique ( slam ) de l’Université d’Evry-Val d’Essonne et l’Institut de Recherche en Musicologie ( cnrs , Université Paris-Sorbonne). Le lien entre « musique et nation » fut à nouveau questionné lors d’un colloque en 2016 à Manchester puis prochainement en octobre 2018 à Montréal.
