Abstract
Ce texte vise d’une part à reconstituer la définition de la vertu de courage à partir des éléments non réfutés par Socrate dans le Lachès. C’est par un examen détaillé de la discussion entourant les définitions proposées par Lachès et Nicias que cet objectif est atteint, ce qui permet de mieux comprendre la deuxième portion du dialogue (190d-199e). D’autre part ce texte illustre les multiples aspects de la définition du courage ainsi obtenue à l’aide du portrait de Socrate que dresse Platon dans l’Apologie ; nous traitons ce faisant de son courage militaire, intellectuel et politique.
