Abstract
Cet article s’intéresse à l’engagement intellectuel de l’historien Ramsay Cook au cours des années 1960, marquées par des tensions entre le Canada français et le Canada anglais et des débats constitutionnels sur la place du Québec au sein de la fédération canadienne. Loin de rester dans la tour d’ivoire universitaire, Cook se montre sensible à l’ampleur de la crise et décide de s’engager pour créer des ponts entre les communautés canadiennes-anglaises et canadiennes-françaises. Pour ce faire, il emprunte tour à tour les chapeaux d’expert et d’intellectuel public. Cet engagement rappelle le rôle essentiel de l’historien comme éclaireur en période de crise.
