« Au nom du peuple » ? Circulations du « populisme » et représentations du populaire au Québec

Abstract
Les usages savants et médiatiques de la notion de « populisme » apparaissent au début des années 2000 au Québec, deux décennies plus tard qu’en France. Les auteurs qui utilisent cette notion pour analyser la scène électorale québécoise naviguent entre des références tantôt françaises, tantôt nord-américaines, mais décrivent un « peuple » aux propriétés sociales bien distinctes des groupes sociaux visés par ce terme en France. Comprendre les dynamiques de circulation, de traduction et de réception de la notion de « populisme » au Québec nécessite de se pencher simultanément sur les trajectoires des intellectuels impliqués dans ces processus et sur les spécificités de ce contexte d’énonciation. La moindre importance de la sociologie politique des groupes sociaux au Québec influence notamment les manières de (se) représenter le populaire à l’aide de cette catégorie.
