Passively mode-locked Nd:YVO4 laser operating at 1073 nm and 1085 nm

Abstract
A passively mode-locked Nd:YVO<sub>4</sub> laser operating at 1073 nm and 1085 nm was demonstrated with an intracavity birefringent filter as the wavelength selecting element. The average output powers achieved were 2.17 W and 2.18 W with optical-to-optical efficiency of 19.6% and 19.7%, respectively. The slope efficiencies were more than 31% at both output wavelengths. The pulse durations at the highest average output power were 10.3 ps and 8.4 ps, respectively. We believe that this is the first report of mode locking of a Nd:YVO<sub>4</sub> laser operating at 1073 nm or 1085 nm lines.
