En milieu minoritaire francophone, les retards observés lors du dépistage des difficultés en lecture pourraient venir d’une sous-exposition à la langue. Toutefois, ces retards pourraient être confondus avec un trouble d’apprentissage spécifique en lecture (dyslexie) si les normes utilisées dans l’évaluation ne sont pas représentatives de la population ciblée et si l’outil contient des biais culturels et linguistiques. Pour éviter d’interpréter ces difficultés comme étant une inaptitude, ce qui pourrait mener à des erreurs dans le dépistage, l’outil d’évaluation en lecture doit être adapté en particulier lorsqu’une population est minoritaire. La présente recherche, dont l’objectif est l’adaptation d’un outil de dépistage des dyslexies (ODÉDYS), fut effectuée à partir du jugement d’experts. Les adaptations apportées à l’outil concernent surtout la modification d’items dans les sous-tests de lecture et de dictée étant donné la présence d’anglicismes et de mots inconnus d’après les expériences d’apprentissage des élèves. Cette recherche propose aussi un exemple de démarche méthodologique pour l’adaptation d’un outil afin de dépister correctement les manifestations de la dyslexie en milieu minoritaire.
