Abstract
La transidentité de Chelsea (Bradley) Manning relève d’une production de genre dont l’analytique de la performance, à laquelle s’adossent les théories dramaturgiques de Judith Butler et Harold Garfinkel, ne peut rendre compte qu’en partie seulement. Le rapport particulier à la visibilité que cette figure publique entretient nécessite de développer une analytique de la reconnaissance ancrée dans la phénoménologie capacitaire de Paul Ricœur. L’examen de trois événements significatifs du parcours de vie de Chelsea (Bradley) Manning dans l’espace public anglo-saxon donne l’occasion d’observer différentes modalités de la reconnaissance et de discuter les présupposés qui grèvent les théories du genre de Butler et Garfinkel.
