Cet article est dédié aux processus musicaux utilisés par Ravel pour créer une identification émotionnelle entre les personnages et les auditeurs dans L’enfant et les sortilèges . La méthodologie mélange réception et analyse, en utilisant la sensibilité des premiers auditeurs pour souligner certaines réactions qui pourraient être ignorées par les auditeurs modernes. La recherche prend en considération quelques scènes de la fantaisie lyrique particulièrement intéressantes pour notre sujet : « Ding, ding, ding » (l’Horloge), « Toi, le coeur de la rose » (l’Enfant), « La cage, c’était pour mieux voir ta prestesse » (l’Écureuil). L’analyse de ces scènes montre que les outils utilisés par Ravel pour créer empathie avec le public produisent une distance avec l’idée poétique exprimée dans L’heure espagnole . La dernière partie de l’article est dédiée à la comparaison entre L’enfant et les sortilèges et les Histoires naturelles , en évaluant le parallélisme entre les caractères et les portraits émotifs des animaux anthropomorphes. Les résultats de la recherche révèlent un fort changement de perspective avec la composition de L’enfant et les sortilèges , sur le plan de la définition des stratégies utilisées par Ravel pour entrer en contact avec les émotions des auditeurs.
