Les avantages de travailler en communauté d’apprentissage professionnelle dans les écoles sont nombreux. Toutefois, les directions semblent avoir des habiletés limitées pour implanter ce nouveau mode de fonctionnement. Afin d’identifier les composantes de la compétence nécessaires pour instaurer et faire progresser ce nouveau mode de fonctionnement, une étude qualitative, par entrevues, a été menée auprès de 15 directions d’école de trois provinces canadiennes. Une thématisation mixte appuyée du logiciel QDA Miner a été utilisée pour analyser les données. La majorité des participants ont cité trois habiletés : articuler une vision et assumer un leadership pédagogique, développer une culture de confiance et de collaboration, et diriger. De plus, une attitude a été soulignée par plusieurs participants : être à l’écoute des enseignants et accepter les erreurs. Quant aux connaissances, les nouvelles pédagogies et les pratiques efficaces ont été nommées par peu de participants.
