Beim Multiplen Myelom (MM) kann mit den erweiterten Therapieoptionen das progressionsfreie und das Gesamtüberleben deutlich gesteigert werden, fasste Prof. Donna E. Reece, Toronto/Kanada, die auf der ASH-Jahrestagung 2011 vorgestellten Daten zusammen. Damit verliert die Stammzelltransplantation zwar nicht an Bedeutung. Neu diskutiert werden müssen jedoch die Art der Transplantation, der Trans - plantationszeitpunkt sowie die Wahl der Induktionstherapie und die Frage einer Einleitung einer Erhaltungstherapie.
