Abstract
Cet article aborde les liens entre l’histoire du développement de Uashat, Maliotenam, Pessamit et Nutashkuan, et la morphologie de leur territoire de réserve ou Innu Assi. Au moyen de sources historiques, cartographiques et littéraires, l’étude identifie et croise les éléments et acteurs ayant influencé ce développement. Combinée à la caractérisation évolutive des formes urbaines (ou morphogenèse), cette approche révèle des coïncidences chronologiques à l’intérieur de trois périodes : 1) la création des premières réserves, avant la Seconde Guerre mondiale ; 2) l’intensification de la sédentarisation et de la croissance urbaine, dans l’après-guerre ; et 3) la période contemporaine de décentralisation, de désengagement de l’État et de dévolution politique et administrative aux communautés. Les résultats mettent en évidence une double rupture au sein de l’Innu Assi contemporain par le biais d’un processus de sédentarisation forcée, et par l’établissement d’un milieu de vie pensé et construit par un autre peuple que celui qui l’habite.
