Abstract
Confrontée à des processus de standardisation et de compétition, mais aussi en perte de légitimité dans l’espace public, la sociologie semble en difficulté malgré un nombre grandissant d’organisations et d’acteurs sociaux qui font appel à des chercheurs pour les aider à formuler des solutions à leurs problèmes. Les auteurs invitent à s’engager à la fois dans la sociologie, au moyen d’une pratique exigeante de cette discipline, et pour la sociologie, afin de défendre les spécificités scientifiques en matière de procédures d’enquête et de prises de parole dans l’espace public. Afin de dresser un état des lieux des difficultés rencontrées par la discipline et ceux qui la pratiquent, ainsi que de ses forces et atouts, l’article présente d’abord les mutations qui affectent le métier de sociologue, puis les formes de l’engagement du sociologue dans la relation avec les enquêtés et dans la société, que ce soit auprès d’organisations ou dans l’espace public.
