Abstract
L’auteure examine les dynamiques contemporaines à l’oeuvre dans la construction et la transformation du procès de travail domestique rémunéré, et ce, à partir d’une enquête orale réalisée dans la ville de Québec. Dans une perspective sociohistorique, deux tensions paradigmatiques font l’objet de son analyse. La première concerne l’enjeu de la professionnalisation du travail domestique, toujours en butte à l’invisibilisation, à la déqualification et à la personnalisation du rapport de travail. La seconde renvoie à l’antagonisme entre l’univers symbolique du « prendre soin » (care) et celui du ménage, défini comme instrumental et entaché du spectre de la servitude. La mise en lumière de ces deux tensions et de leur interaction permet de faire ressortir, dans un contexte de réalignement néolibéral postfordiste du marché de l’emploi, quelques mécanismes contemporains fondamentaux du renouvellement de la division du travail domestique, autour des rapports de genre et de classe, notamment.
