Este estudo objetiva abordar o impacto de algumas mudanças e inovações nas Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES), fazendo inicialmente uma abordagem do contexto atual, avaliando o crescimento observado nas duas últimas décadas e as novas possibilidades de desenvolvimento das mesmas. As IES têm um grande desafio pela frente e o trabalho ora apresentado discute duas grandes contribuições que podem ser dadas à sociedade e ao crescimento do país: o uso de Metodologias Ativas como ferramenta inovadora e a contribuição do Ensino a Distância (EaD) no ensino superior. Avalia-se aqui como essas duas ações podem propiciar um diferencial à qualidade de ensino e melhor preparação para o mercado de trabalho e uma maior inclusão de pessoas nesse nível de ensino. A tendência é que as organizações melhorem seus produtos, invistam em novas ideias, tornem o conhecimento produtivo nessa diversidade tecnológica. A instituição que não abre os olhos para as inovações e transformações está fadada ao fracasso, mas não basta apenas olhar: é preciso ver, conhecer, entender e aderir às mudanças, até mesmo promovê-las. Só assim ela não ficará estagnada.
