Abstract
Cet article se penche sur les gags visuels et sonores dans les films de Luis Buñuel, et plus précisément la relation qu’ils entretiennent avec la construction de l’image publique du réalisateur. À partir des travaux de Noël Carroll sur le gag visuel et ceux de Marijke de Valk sur la traduction du gag visuel au gag sonore, l’essai démontre que le gag dans l’oeuvre de Buñuel est « extradiégétique » et fonctionne comme une interruption de la diégèse attirant l’attention sur le réalisateur. Le mot « gag » évoque les clowns et l’esthétique du cinéma des attractions, et suggère la rupture du récit par le spectacle non narratif du comique. Je suggère qu’il puisse être très utile d’explorer cette idée en relation à Buñuel qui considérait que les bouffonneries des premiers clowns du cinéma étaient équivalentes au surréalisme.
