Cet article traite du développement d’un robot mobile marcheur à six pattes : Hexapode. La conception mécanique et celle du contrôleur utilise des principes biomimétiques, s’inspirant de la fourmi. Le développement de ce robot permet l’étude théorique et expérimentale de concepts menant à des démarches stables et efficaces sur des reliefs accidentés. La notion des polygones, de support et de retour, permet de mieux gérer les paramètres de stabilité durant la marche. Des critères tels que la mobilité, l’autonomie et l'adaptabilité sont utilisés pour parvenir à générer les idées et les concepts derrière cette plate-forme. Le prototype final qui a été construit ainsi que les étapes préalables à sa fabrication sont décrits. L’équilibrage statique du robot a été mis en œuvre pour permettre de diminuer la consommation énergétique. La programmation hiérarchique sous forme de couche d’interface matérielle, de couche de coordination et de couche décisionnelle permet la gestion des déplacements, des séquences de fonctionnement et la prise de décision pour permettre au robot de mieux faire face à son environnement. Les applications où Hexapode se démarqueraient sont celles requérant la dextérité propre à l’exploration de terrain, ceci pourrait inclure des tâches spatiales ou terrestres.
