Abstract
Les films de Leslie Thornton, Su Friedrich et Abigail Child sont représenta tifs de trois tendances importantes dans le cinéma d’avant-garde américain des années 80: la place de plus en plus grande qu’occupent les femmes (et la “question féminine”); la dissolution des démarcations strictes entre l’art élitiste et la culture popu laire; et la nécessité d’innover et de repenser les formes et les genres de l’avant-garde traditionnelle, principalement en ce qui a trait à la narration, à l’autobiographie et au collage/montage. Cette inventivité formelle révèle les liens qui unissent ces trois cinéastes au niveau de leur esthétique et de leur implication dans le discours politique et social de l’époque.
