Cette étude mesure l’impact des ponceaux sur la fragmentation de l’habitat du saumon atlantique (Salmo salar) juvénile. La classification de 126 ponceaux avec un filtre statique indique que les ponceaux potentiellement infranchissables pour les salmonidés juvéniles sont présents en grande proportion à travers les bassins versants des quatre rivières inventoriées. Nous avons procédé aux suivis des déplacements de 189 saumons marqués avec des transpondeurs passifs (12 mm) à travers sept ponceaux en tenant compte de leur morphométrie et des conditions hydrauliques. La télémétrie fixe installée dans les ponceaux s’est avérée plus efficace que le suivi de part et d’autre des ponceaux des poissons marqués avec des antennes portables. Les poissons n’ayant pas effectué de tentatives sont significativement plus petits. Ceux mesurant entre 60 et 69 mm ont eu la plus faible réussite de passage (15,6%). Le pourcentage de poissons détectés est expliqué à 57% par la distance à parcourir et la vitesse de l’écoulement selon le modèle prédictif développé. Un test de personnalité réalisé sur 300 saumons démontre que les petits individus seraient plus audacieux. Cette prise de risque est probablement attribuable à la croissance rapide nécessaire à la survie individuelle. Ces travaux apportent de nouvelles connaissances sur la fragmentation de l’habitat du saumon atlantique par les ponceaux.
