Abstract
Cet article examine dans deux romans de Pan Bouyoucas la figure du détective en tant que défenseur de l’ordre social, avatar à la fois de la raison, de l’intégrité et du sacrifice personnel. La Vengeance d’un père (1997, 2016) traite de la période postréférendaire à Montréal où les tensions entre les diverses communautés ethniques mènent à l’irruption de la violence nécessitant l’intervention de la police, tout en entravant l’enquête policière dans un foisonnement de rumeurs et d’accusations mutuelles. Dans Cocorico (2011), le détective est un personnage doué d’une logique implacable et d’une capacité pour l’altruisme qui offre un répit contre la progression inéluctable de la maladie d’Alzheimer de l’auteur fictionnel qui l’a créé. Bouyoucas utilise les motifs du polar pour souligner l’importance de l’altruisme, l’observation empirique et de la raison comme armes contre le désordre social, la violence et la démence en tant que formes de l’abject.
