Abstract
L’an 1521 marque la conquête espagnole de la Mésoamérique. C’est la rencontre entre deux cultures et deux systèmes religieux : la religion monothéiste catholique des Espagnols et la religion animiste des populations indiennes de la Mésoamérique. Les communautés indiennes ont adapté leurs croyances religieuses à celles de la culture dominante et continuent de le faire aujourd’hui. Dans la perspective des études de dynamismes culturels et de syncrétisme, cet article présente les conceptions et les pratiques reliées à la mort chez les Nahuas du Haut Balsas dans l’État du Guerrero, Mexique. Il examine comment les conceptions et pratiques préhispaniques, notamment les dimensions spatiales des rituels, le périple jusqu’au séjour des morts et des exemples du cycle vie – mort – renaissance se sont intégrées à la religion officielle, le catholicisme.
