Abstract
La première citation prophétique de l’Évangile selon Matthieu (1,23) est certainement la plus commentée du Nouveau Testament et le texte cité (Is 7,14) est un des plus difficiles à interpréter. Cet article développe le rapport intertextuel entre Is 6–12 et Mt 1–2 pour présenter ces textes comme des récits subversifs du pouvoir impérial dans une perspective postcoloniale. En s’intéressant à la situation politique plus large de ces deux références, de nouvelles possibilités de sens apparaissent. La relecture des promesses d’Isaïe en Matthieu a permis aux premiers lecteurs de cet évangile de mettre en perspective les injustices qu’ils subissent et le questionnement théologique qu’ils portent après la destruction de Jérusalem en 70. Tout comme l’enfant annoncé par Isaïe, en Matthieu, l’Emmanuel est montré dès sa naissance comme un signe de résistance au pouvoir impérial. Citer Isaïe dans ce contexte est une façon d’ouvrir un espace de critique aux valeurs impériales.
