Abstract
Notre article porte sur un courant minoritaire et alternatif au sein du champ philanthropique aux États-Unis : la philanthropie de changement social. Nous présentons l’action de fondations qui visent à la fois à changer la société en luttant contre les inégalités sociales, économiques et politiques, mais aussi à changer la philanthropie, en créant des mécanismes qui ne reproduisent pas ces inégalités. Nous analysons ce projet d’abord comme une épreuve organisationnelle, en étudiant les expériences menées depuis les années 1970, puis comme une épreuve personnelle, pour les héritiers rebelles qui utilisent leur fortune afin de lutter contre l’hégémonie de leur propre classe sociale.
