Cet article propose d’interroger les limites de la phrase quignardienne à partir de certaines formes récurrentes : brachylogies, sommaires, asyndètes, les « bienfaits du fragment » dans l’attaque — globalement, un travail syntaxique instruisant sa propre disjonction. Par cette cartographie des formes disjonctives, on observe un effet paradoxal d’imprévisibilité ou d’indécidable — c’est, en somme, la rhétorique du traité : « pas de but, pas de stratégie, pas de conscience » ( Petits traités i ). Cette rhétorique est paradoxale, parce qu’elle est mise au service d’un discours extrêmement maîtrisé dans son dessein général — une maîtrise que l’on constate dans la lecture de Quignard par le monde universitaire, qui se sert généralement des outils d’analyse présents dans le texte. Sans contester cette maîtrise, cette étude propose de la lire autrement.
