Cet article décrit de quelle manière les écrits scientifiques ont été mobilisés en trois temps dans le cadre d’une recherche inductive sur la négociation des rôles entre des enseignants et des parents en contexte de diversité culturelle. La mobilisation des écrits a d’abord consisté en un état des lieux quant à la relation école-familles minoritaires (issues de la migration et/ou disposant de revenus modestes). De là se sont dégagés notre objet de la négociation des rôles et l’approche interactionniste adoptée pour l’aborder. Ensuite, dans un processus itératif avec la collecte et l’analyse des données, le recours aux écrits a contribué à l’émergence des résultats, selon une démarche d’induction théorisante (Paillé & Mucchielli, 2012). Enfin, par un processus de généralisation analytique (Yin, 1984) consistant à relier les résultats obtenus avec leurs conditions d’apparition et les apports théoriques, le recours aux écrits a permis une certaine généralisation des résultats, respectueuse de démarche inductive.
