Abstract
Lors de son retour sur la scène astronautique en 1998, John Glenn apparaissait comme l’incarnation de l’èlite professionnelle porteuse de l’idéologie progressiste des sciences et technologies occidentales. Mais Glenn, le personnageastronaute, évolue à l’intérieur d’une histoire de rationalisation du lieu de travail qui se ressent comme une perte d’autonomie, un désoeuvrement, un hyper-conformisme et une indifférence généralisée. Cela crée des contradictions idéologiques à l’intérieur de l’espace identitaire professionnel. Cet article met en parallèle le rôle que joue Hollywood dans la promotion du voyage spatial et l’espace, le statut et le travail professionnels dans la société contemporaine. L’auteur traite des questions de classes, de nations, de races et d’identités sexuelles à l’intérieur du projet de la conquête scientifique de l’espace.
