Abstract
The twenty-first century is seeing a shift in global power from one that was centred in the North Atlantic to one centred in the Asia-Pacific. This article asks whether Canada is adapting to this shift and what Canada must do to adapt and maintain its status as a core middle power into the middle of the twenty-first century. I argue that demographic shifts in the Canadian population and changes in the Canadian political economy support such a shift, and by orienting ourselves to the Pacific, we will be completing our transformation from a former colony to an independent state, freed from the Eurocentric prejudices that accompanied our colonial founding.
