Abstract
Faisons un premier constat : le terme transition n'est pas un nologisme. La transitio latine suggre d'emble par son verbe d'action transire qu'il s'agit d'un dplacement, au sens de passer travers un espace, mais surtout de le dpasser. Mais on trouve aussi dans son usage latin, quoique plus rarement parmi d'autres sens, une ide du temps qui passe, qui s'coule comme un leuve et qui disparat (Gafiot, 1934). L'acception retenue bien plus tardivement partir du XIX e sicle donne penser la transition comme un intermdiaire entre deux tats, deux situations, un entre-deux plus ou moins confortable. Plutt utilise dans un sens commun en locutions telles que en transition , de transition , elle renvoie des situations en attente. On voit donc dans le fondement mme du concept, les dimensions d'espace et de temps, qui apparaissent inextricablement imbriques.
