Abstract
The Pay Equity Commission is Quebec’s public agency in charge of interpreting and applying the 1996 Pay Equity Act, which aims to reduce discriminatory pa y differentials between men and women in the pro vince’s public and private sectors. Drawing on her experience as head of the Commission as well as literature on the subject, the author outlines the context in which it was created, its specific characteristics and achievements, the positions of the social actors when it was first created and in 2008, a nd the threats and challenges it will face in the next decade.
