Innovative E and H probe use for evaluation of 5G modulated signal devices

Abstract
A new generation of super-fast 5G devices operating in the frequency range from 10 GHz to 110 GHz presents numerous challenges for the RF community. High-precision instrumentation is required to address these challenges and to appraise innovative designs as the field enters into the millimetre wavelength frequencies. Near-field measurements show evidence of energy back-propagation stemming from complex interactions within the electromagnetic field. To control the evolution of a high-frequency signal in the reactive near-field zone, an enhanced knowledge of the interaction between electric E and magnetic H fields is essential. Aprel's 5G near-field probes have been developed to measure the field vector distributions at frequencies from 10 GHz to 110 GHz in close proximity to a device. The presented E and H probes are able to discern the 360-degree field patterns at each measurement point and to quantify the field vector amplitude and its direction within the evaluation plane. The results of these measurements can provide information on the power density, backscattering effect, antenna gain and directivity, beamforming, and much more.
