Abstract
L’histoire de la société-soeur de l’Institut canadien de Montréal, la Société des Amis, fait ressortir la trame économique et intellectuelle de la décennie 1840 : l’idée et la réalité du libre-échange. De même que les traités constitutionnels s’étaient imposés en 1791, les traités d’économie politique deviennent incontournables autant chez un Amédée Papineau que chez un Étienne Parent. Comme si on avait identifié une épistémè, une trame de changement.
