Abstract
Les années 1980 en France furent décisives dans l’histoire des salles de cinéma. L’auteure de cet article s’intéresse à la manière dont une revue cinéphile, les Cahiers du cinéma, s’est positionnée et a rendu compte de certaines problématiques liées notamment à la chute de fréquentation ou à la place prise par la télévision, dans une période qui était, pour la revue aussi, charnière. En effet, après leur période politisée des années 1970, les Cahiers se cherchent, cherchent leurs lecteurs, et leur discours sur les salles apparaît progressivement comme une projection des interrogations de la revue sur sa propre identité. Nourrie d’exemples parisiens, prenant pour modèle la programmation de la Cinémathèque française, la revue va développer un discours qui accompagne celui de sa mue vers une nouvelle formule qui veut renouer avec son public cinéphile, intégrer les nouveautés technologiques et faire dialoguer films du passé et films contemporains.
