Abstract

Cet article revient sur l’action quotidienne d’un groupe de femmes qui a accompagné la bataille juridique pour le droit à l’avortement libre et gratuit pour toutes les femmes du Québec et qui en assure sa pratique depuis 1980 : le Centre de Santé des femmes de Montréal (CDSFM). S’appuyant sur le pan québécois d’une enquête doctorale sur la construction sociale des expériences contemporaines d’avortement, il donne à voir la manière dont se sont constitués le Centre et son service d’interruption de grossesse et présente les principes fondamentaux développés en son sein et leur traduction en actes. Enfin, il souligne les défis auxquels le CDSFM se trouve confronté depuis une vingtaine d’années. En effet, du fait de son institutionnalisation et d’évolutions récentes (la gratuité générale de l’avortement au Québec, tout comme l’individualisation et la médication croissante de la santé), le Centre se doit de repenser ses ancrages théoriques et ses pratiques pour pérenniser son activité.
