Abstract
L’article présente les résultats d’une enquête sur l’écriture menée en France par questionnaire auprès de 160 élèves de dernière année de primaire (CM2). L’analyse de contenu menée fait apparaitre que les élèves interrogés ont du mal à objectiver ce qu’est l’écriture dans la diversité de ses fonctions. Le primat de la correction sur toutes les autres préoccupations et la peur de faire des erreurs ne facilitent pas leur entrée dans l’écriture. Pour les élèves, la langue posée en termes de maitrise est censée assurer aux scripteurs une réussite instantanée de leurs énoncés. Au vu des objets convoqués dans leurs réponses, les élèves ont construit, au terme de leur scolarité primaire, des conceptions encore peu susceptibles de faciliter leur entrée dans les dimensions spécifiques à l’écriture et partant, dans une littératie étendue.
