Abstract
This auto-ethnography considers the impact of a successful tenure decision on the approach taken to academic work. Using a conceptual model of tenure-track experiences, this study considers the impact of the tenure decision as a lived experience. The focus of the study is whether the established model of tenure-track experiences is sufficient to extend to the earliest stages after a tenure decision. There are shortcomings but it is necessary to distinguish between the emotional components that tenure permanence brings and the career realities that change more slowly. When that is done, subtle distinctions point to potential refinements of the model of tenure-track experiences that may facilitate extending the model beyond the tenure decision.
