This assessment considers a set of 10 deposit types in the East Arm of Slave Lake Mineral and Energy Resource Assessment (MERA) study area that contain or have potential to contain uranium: iron oxide- copper-gold, undifferentiated veins, arsenide silver-cobalt (5-element) veins, sandstone, intrusion (mainly pegmatite), surficial bog, volcanic-hosted, unconformity-associated, phosphatic and/or carbonaceous black shale, and paleoplacer. Background radioactivity is inherently low in the East Arm's natural geological setting, with the exception of very small rock occurrences and radon gas seeps. Observations made during this study suggest that radon flow is focused along the myriad faults in the region. The main resource-oriented conclusion for the proposed Thaidene Nene national park area is that the economic potential for uranium is moderate to low, with decreasing potential in the order of deposit types listed above.
