Abstract
Les Inuit, habitues a vivre dans des conditions de vie extremement difficiles, font eclore la poesie et meme la joie dans cet univers aride, recouvert de neige et de glace la plupart du temps. La langue inuit compte d’ailleurs plus d’une douzaine de mots differents pour designer la neige, comme le precise Maurice Coyaud dans la postface ! Ce peuple ne se lasse pas de se poser des questions sur ses propres origines et l‘origine des animaux qui l’entourent et le font vivre. Les contes se deroulent a l’epoque ou les hommes et les animaux crient des mots magiques, qui ont le pouvoir de faire apparaitre les choses. C’est ainsi que le lapin a fait naitre le jour en repetant son nom. De leur cote, ce sont les aigles qui ont appris aux humains a chanter, a danser, et a faire la fete pou egayer la banquise.
