Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of studying the Russian art of the second quarter of the XIX century as a field of monarchy representation. The paper considers the embodiment of the idea of national identity and the establishment of autocracy as the basic postulates through the introduction of the elements of military aesthetics into various forms of art. The author makes an attempt to substantiate the implementation of the ideological program within the framework of two artistic movements - classicism and romanticism, which were worldview platforms, - as well as historicism as the fundamental principle of artistic consciousness and thinking. The listed categories act as the defining genre and stylistic features of the art of the period under consideration.
