L’Institut Supérieur d’Architecture de l’État, La Cambre, était réputé pour les caractéristiques de son enseignement : pluraliste, critique, développant des analyses et des projets originaux, ouvert aux courants architecturaux liés aux luttes urbaines. Au cours de l’été 1979, des décisions ministérielles entraînèrent le licenciement de la moitié du corps professoral. Un système d’enseignement était brisé. Face aux décisions prises, la lutte s’est organisée dans l’institution mais a échoué : les enseignants ne sont pas réintégrés. Aujourd’hui, la lutte se poursuit sous la forme de la création, par les enseignants exclus, d’une nouvelle école. L’article retrace brièvement les événements en s’interrogeant sur les raisons qui firent échouer la lutte dans l’institution.
