Ce texte veut éclairer les conditions par lesquelles un dialogue est possible entre les mouvements pour la paix dans les pays industrialisés et les mouvements de libération dans ce qu’on appelle généralement le « Tiers-Monde ». Ces mouvements expriment des dynamiques sociales, politiques et idéologiques fort diversifiées, mais ils appellent en commun à une nouvelle définition de la démocratie et des rapports internationaux. Ce fond commun est cependant masqué par divers obstacles idéologiques et politiques que certains parviennent parfois à franchir pour un renforcement mutuel. Les mouvements pour la paix ont à apporter dans ce dialogue de nouvelles réflexions sur les expériences organisationnelles basées sur la démocratie directe. Ils regardent d’une manière rafraîchissante les concepts et les expériences de progrès et de modernité à partir des recherches écologistes et antinucléaires. Ils élaborent de nouvelles formes de mobilisation sociale à partir de l’action de masse non violente. Les mouvements de libération pour leur part regénèrent l’action politique en faisant la jonction entre libération nationale et lutte pour la démocratie. Ils sont l’expression d’un nouveau dialogue entre christianisme et marxisme. Ils cherchent à élaborer un nouveau faisceau de relations internationales non-alignées. Toute recherche d’une voie alternative sur l’espace politique mondial actuel passe par une recherche commune à partir des expériences et des théorisations de ces deux grands mouvements sociaux de la fin du XXe siècle.
