Abstract
Cet article se penche sur le Journal de Hardy du point de vue de ses procédés de mise en œuvre, particulièrement en ce qui concerne les manifestations de la temporalité dans l’épisode de la mort de Louis XV. On y trouve un récit quasi suivi malgré son caractère fragmentaire, ainsi que des regroupements factuels obtenus soit par mise en perspective, soit par rédaction antidatée de certains passages. Cela tempère l’effet d’instantanéité construit par la datation et confirme le projet d’une entreprise de nature historique, déjà notable dans une focalisation à dominante rétrospective. Les limites de cet effort sont toutefois évidentes : la conscience du diariste au travail est avant tout celle de l’instant présent et son optique ne tend pas vers la synthèse.
