Abstract
Malgré l’importance des campagnes de sensibilisation, le nombre de victimes piétons enfants en période scolaire est demeuré quasi constant entre 1999 et 2003 à Montréal (Canada). Par ailleurs, jusqu’à présent, l’environnement urbain entourant les écoles primaires a été peu pris en considération dans l’étude des facteurs de risque affectant ces usagers vulnérables. Le présent projet a donc pour objectif d’étudier l’influence de différentes variables socio-économiques et environnementales sur le risque d’accidents piétons à travers une modélisation qui tient compte des environnements de proximité des écoles. En ce sens, notre méthode fait appel aux systèmes d’information géographique et à une régression de Poisson géographiquement pondérée (GWR). Cinq variables indépendantes sont positivement associées au risque routier piéton près des écoles : le nombre de brigadiers, la mixité fonctionnelle, la densité résidentielle, la défavorisation et la densité populationnelle (enfants). Le recours à la modélisation GWR a permis de montrer comment ces facteurs de risque varient localement à travers le territoire de l’île de Montréal. Or, la connaissance de ces variations ne peut qu’aider les décideurs à définir des stratégies de prévention plus efficaces à l’échelle locale.
