La investigacion a la que se hace referencia en el presente articulo,  corresponde a los resultados de un analisis documental (Galeano, 2012) de “La escritura academica en contexto: posibilidad de desarrollo profesional de los profesores universitarios”. El estudio pretende, por un lado, identificar a traves de las  investigaciones en escritura academica las diversas perspectivas teoricas y metodologicas, y, por otro lado, analizar la relacion que existe entre escritura academica y el desarrollo profesional del profesor de educacion superior.  Con esta finalidad, se analizaron 50 documentos que datan del ano 2006 hasta el ano 2016 y que han sido publicados en diferentes paises, tales como Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Portugal, Argentina, Venezuela, Estados Unidos, Espana y Canada. Los resultados muestran el interes de los investigadores por las dificultades que existen en el proceso escritor, la formacion escritural del profesor universitario, la escritura como una tarea compleja, el uso de la escritura academica, las explicaciones a los problemas de lectura y escritura en el estudiante dejando de lado a los profesores,  y el aprendizaje de los estudiantes y la didactica de los profesores.
