Abstract
Cet article traite de l’impact que la Première Guerre mondiale a eu sur la conception de la paix. En prenant le cas particulier du Comité national d’études sociales et politiques (un comité d’intellectuels français qui se réunissait quotidiennement entre 1916 et 1931 pour traiter de sujets d’actualité et qui soutenait la mise en place d’un système d’arbitrage international comme la Société des Nations), cet article montre que la paix représente, pour ces intellectuels, davantage que le rêve d’un monde sans guerre et sans violence. Elle est un moyen d’assurer la survie et la puissance d’une France profondément affectée par la destruction causée par le premier conflit mondial.
