Abstract
Cet article s’appuie sur l’analyse des mémoires de Gabriel d’Arboussier, grande figure politique des indépendances africaines. Véritable roman du métissage et du cosmopolitisme impérial – voire mondial –, ces deux manuscrits inédits offrent une entrée originale dans une histoire sensible de la situation coloniale. Partant du prisme d’un « métis » qui a la particularité d’être autant Français qu’Africain, cet article propose d’explorer ses logiques d’action et son système de représentation. Nous montrons combien ces écrits de soi offrent un excellent observatoire des constructions sociales et identitaires du métissage, et comment ils permettent de saisir les tensions biographiques et familiales générées par l’histoire coloniale et des décolonisations.
