Canada will become the first G7 nation to legalise the recreational consumption of marijuana, after a federal government bill cleared its final legislative hurdle this week (19 June). The Senate voted in favour of the legislation by 52 votes to 29, with two abstentions. Canada’s third biggest party, the New Democrats, voted with the Liberal government. It will allow over 18s to carry and share a maximum of 30 g of legal marijuana in public.
