Cet article vise à mieux comprendre les représentations sociales (RS) de parents immigrants sur l’école et la scolarisation de leurs enfants en considérant des éléments relatifs à leur prémigration et à leur établissement dans la société d’accueil. Par une démarche qualitative, exploratoire et interprétative, des données ont été recueillies auprès de 25 familles immigrées au Québec depuis 6 mois à 9 ans. Nos résultats montrent la nécessité de considérer la rationalité de la migration pour mieux comprendre les prises de position de parents sur la persévérance scolaire. La prise en considération de défis liés à l’insertion socioprofessionnelle et au processus d’acculturation apporte également un éclairage sur des prises de position de parents à l’égard de l’enseignement de l’anglais et de valeurs de socialisation véhiculées à l’école ou perçues comme telles.
