Hacia fines del siglo XIX España pasó por un proceso de modernización cuyas nociones centrales repercutieron en cómo se concibió la educación femenina. Principalmente fundado en ideas de Michel Foucault y Pierre Bourdieu, y comenzando con Josefa Amar y Borbón (1790 ), este trabajo examina algunos discursos de médicos y de revistas de los años sesenta y setenta, terminando con algunos textos del Congreso Pedagógico de 1892 . Quedará clara la paradoja: al simular animar a la mujer para que realizara actividad física, esas autoridades contribuyeron en realidad a controlar la “materia” de la mujer, dejándola custodiada en el discurso y, efectivamente, “in-corporada” en su realidad social.
