La recepción del patrimonio hispanoamericano en Canadá es un terreno poco explorado y, sin embargo, un efectivo indicador de las relaciones culturales en la región. Cuando en los años ochenta se promovían lazos económicos a escala hemisférica, el teatro defendía una soberanía contestataria de los primeros pueblos del continente. Con Le porteur des peines du monde y La conquête de Mexico, la compañía canadiense Ondinnok propone alianzas políticas panindígenas de norte a sur. Cuestionando las fronteras coloniales y la segregación de las reservas norteamericanas, sus dramas recrean mitos, personajes, eventos y autores latinoamericanos a través de una lectura geográfico-cultural que antecede al “giro espacial” de las ciencias sociales.
