Abstract
Ce qui frappe le lecteur en feuilletant les derniers numéros de L’Arbalète , c’est la splendeur de la revue fondée en février 1940 par Marc Barbezat, : le bouffant du papier, la sobre élégance de la mise en pages, la typographie en majesté, « la passion du Garamond ». C’est avec une presse à bras que Barbezat confectionnera lui-même les premiers numéros de sa revue qui était loin en ses débuts de la beauté qu’elle atteindra. Ses modestes tirages dédaignant les autorisations administratives de l’Occupation lui permettent une liberté souveraine, de l’audace dans le choix des écrivains, français (Aragon, Éluard, Jean Wahl) ou étrangers (Lorca, Kafka) qu’elle publie. Un héritage plus tard, un imprimeur expert, Audin, permettent enfin à Barbezat de produire, à partir de son numéro 8, L’Arbalète tel qu’il la rêve et ainsi jusqu’à sa treizième et ultime livraison, en passant par le mythique numéro 9 (1944) consacré à la littérature américaine
