Abstract
The second referendum about the sovereignty of Quebec organized in 1995 did not obtain a decisive result : no’s prevailed by a very small margin. Since 1995 political life in Canada and Quebec has shown contradictory aspects : the liberal Prime minister Jean Chrétien triumphed in the elections of 1997 and 2000 whilst in Quebec the charismatic Lucien Bouchard who stepped down in January 2001 left his position to a new leader quite decided to start again campaigning in favour of an independent Quebec. But is the people in Quebec quite ready to begin again such a risky adventure ? It is not sure at all.
